In a previous post we discussed the retiring Siemens products and gave a few options for future replacements. This post goes into more detail about the replacement product options and includes the order numbers.
Recently, Siemens announced the retirement of three key PROFIBUS items:
- Termination resistor (aka active termination), part number 6ES7972-0DA00-0AA0
- Standard repeater, part number 6ES7972-0AA02-0XA0
- Diagnostic repeater, part number 6ES79720AB01-0XA0
JCOM Automation Inc. sells products to replace these that are as good if not better than the Siemens products.

Notes:
- The FLEXtra twin repeater is 6 mm wider than the Siemens repeater
- The FLEXtra multiRepeater 4-way is 14mm wider than the Siemens diagnostic repeater and does not have diagnostics. Please see the Details section below for a device that will have diagnostics. Please note that the device with diagnostics a lot wider than this one.
Details and other replacement options
Termination resistor
For the Termination resistor (active termination), we recommend using the FLEXtra® PROFIBUS profiPoint complete with 90° connector
Order number: 700-972-1XA02
This device is smaller than the Siemens. Therefore, there is no problem with the panel space. The Profipoint is 35 x 32 x 72 mm (DxWxH) while the Siemens one is 43 x 60 x 70 mm (DxWXH)
Standard Repeater (two options)
If your panel is tight, JCOM Automation Inc. recommends replacing the Siemens repeater with the FLEXtra twin repeater + connectors
Order number: 700-972-2XA02.
The new repeater is only 6mm wider than the Siemens. It is also shorter and thinner than the Siemens one.
If you have more panel space, a better option for you is the MULTIrep X2 by Indu-Sol.
It is 30mm (1.18″) wider than the Siemens repeater, but it is smaller in height and depth. It is also smarter with its indicator lights and has a feature where errors are automatically filtered out and not transferred to other segments.
Like the Helmholz repeater, you can view both segments. It is only a little more expensive than the Helmholz repeater and well worth it if you have the panel space.

Diagnostic Repeater (three options)
If the panel space is tight, then our recommendation is to use the Helmholz FLEXtra multiRepeater 4-way plus four piggy-back connectors.
This repeater is 14mm wider than the Siemens repeater, but it is not as wide as the other options.
The Siemens is 80 x 125 x 66.3 mm (WxHxD) while the Helmholz is 94 x 72 x 35 mm (WxHxD)
Order one 700-972-4AA02 and quantity four PROFIBUS connector 90°, screw terminal with PG, order number 700-972-0BB12.
If you have more panel space, a better option for you is the MULTIrep X5 by Indu-Sol.
It is 65mm wider than the Siemens diagnostic repeater, but it is smaller in height and depth. It is also smarter than the Helmholz with its indicator lights and has a feature where errors are automatically filtered out and not transferred to other segments.
Like the Helmholz repeater, you can view all segments. It is only a bit more expensive than the Helmholz repeater and well worth it if you have the panel space.

If you are using the diagnostic features of the Siemens Diagnostic repeater then the best choice is the Anybus ProfiHub B2+.
It is 31mm wider than the Siemens Diagnostic repeater, but it does have many of the same diagnostic information.
