James Powell, P.Eng.
Instructor
James Powell, P.Eng., is the principal engineer and owner of JCOM Automation Inc. He has written many articles and two books: HART Communication Protocol – a practical guide, and Catching the process fieldbus – An introduction to PROFIBUS and PROFINET. James is a certified PROFIBUS DP, PA, and PROFINET network engineer, PROFIBUS System Design Engineer and has over 20 years of experience with PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and HART installations. James started learning about EMC issues over 15 years ago and has been increase his knowledge and field experience since then.
The use of switching devices such as variable speed drives make the likelihood of sporadic production outages due to the effects of interference and pickup more likely. This one-day course aims to raise awareness of the issues, the theory behind them and how to ensure that the design and installation of Industrial Automation systems can reduce the likelihood of Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) related issues in the future.
This course is aimed at people with a conventional low frequency electrical background who are involved in the design, installation, commissioning and support of the following aspects of industrial automation systems.
